High School Schedules Released- Catch GIE Alums in the Area

Most young men that have experience playing football look back at their high school football career as their glory days.  Representing not only their team but the colors of their school and community as well.  There are many Gridiron Elite members that make an impact at local high schools whether it be former youth players who now star on the team, to adult players whom give their time and efforts in coaching the leaders of tommorrow.

We first would like to applaud the efforts of those that allow the young men in the area to live out their dreams by teaching them the craft.  The fall is loaded with great action on the scholastic scene.  Former New York Bandit and Spartan player Harry Irizarry is on the Dewitt Clinton Coaching Staff and will be entering his 4th year with the program in a coaching capacity.

Heat Advisory For All Players, Coaches and Fans

Players Coaches and Fans alike please be advised of the following. With the extreme heat in the New York area please take proper precautions before playing or attending a game.
The following is a list of precautions people can take to reduce the risk of heat exhaustion and heat stroke.

Drink plenty of fluids but avoid beverages that contain alcohol, caffeine or large amounts of sugar.

Plan strenuous outdoor activities for cooler parts of the day; then gradually build up tolerance for warmer conditions.

Stay indoors in an air-conditioned environment as much as possible

If air conditioning is not available, open windows on opposite sides of rooms for cross ventilation, and use fans to cool rooms. If temperature and humidity are extremely high, point fans out windows.

Take frequent breaks when working outdoors.

Eat more frequently but make sure meals are well balanced and light.

At first signs of heat illness (dizziness, nausea, headaches, muscle cramps), move to a cooler location, rest for a few minutes and slowly drink a cool liquid. Seek medical attention immediately if conditions do not improve.

Ask a physician or pharmacist about the effects of sun and heat exposure if taking prescription medications such as diuretics, antihistamines or mood-altering or antispasmodic drugs.

Check frequently on ill or elderly friends, relatives and neighbors who may need help.

Avoid bundling babies in heavy blankets or dressing them in heavy clothing.

On the New York City Football Forum, there are a few things that have developed into constants.  Trash talking, jokes, and spread central.  The weekly release of the spreads for all the league games has been a great addition to the forum which is in its second decade of service.  The players, coaches and fans alike go to the forum for their Minor League Football news on a daily basis which for some has developed into a sort of religon.

Here is the list of games that he is covering this week.  22 games which means Retired has done his homework on 44 different teams and you would be surprised at how accurate he is.

Fairfield County Ravens “New” Team

The Connecticut Ravens have established themselves in the 3 years of the Spring Classic as a very disciplined and well ran team.  The players that suit up for the Ravens usually go to other teams after the spring is over.. Not so fast! The Ravens are now members of the New England football League.  They will be competing in the A division as a “new team” although in 3 years of competing in the Gridiron Elite Spring Classic they have compild a winning record.  Good luck to Todd Kennedy and the Ravens in their season.

Mr. Tivo featured in ” The Decision Sequel”

Rarely do you get a chance to meet personalities that would get ratings to skyrocket on the major networks but right in your backyard.  Corey Sage is at it again, this time he is doing a “Lebron” and announcing the team that he will be suiting up via web telecast.  The quarterback that hails out of Brooklyn approached the Gridiron Elite Film crew to do a story on his decision on where to play in the 2010 football season.  As the Elite is always committed to giving players the best experience in Minor League Football, the opportunity to profile a player in such a way was a chance we couldn’t pass up. Part 1 explains the decision process and what where the influences that went into making the decision as Corey shares his thoughts on conversations, text messages and voice mail from players, coaches and even league executives that weigh in on what he should do.  The broadcast is shot on top the historic Brooklyn Bridge, with special guest host Mr. 24 himself and field reporting from Brandon Davis asking folks on the street where they think Corey should play.  The decision part 1 is now up and being viewed at a record pace.  The decision Sequel….. The finale Part 2 coming soon!

Spartans Road Trip – Learning the Ways of A Champion

Recently the New York partans took a road trip to Boston, Mass to tour some of the facilities that have made Beantown home to so many great sports stories.  The Crimson visited the ”other Crimson” when they toured Harvard Stadium, one of the oldest college football stadiums in the nation.  The Harvard Crimson, defending Ivy League Champs are poised to defend their crown in 2010.

The Spartans also toured behind the scenes at Fenway Park, home to the rival Boston Red Sox.  Although a crew of mostly Yankee fans, the Spartans appreciated the history of the 2nd oldest ballpark in the country along with the tradition and pride that the Bostonians have in their home field.

Last on the tour was Gillete Stadium, home of the 3 time Super Bowl Champion New England Patriots.  Besides trying on the equipment and trying on a Super Bowl ring, the Crimson toured the facilities and got up close to the most recognizable trophy in all of sports.  ”This is what it’s all about” said Defensive End Shawn Kellman (97)  ”The trophy, the championship, the ultimate goal, we want to get one this year.”  For more information on the Spartans and their travels visit www.nyspartans.org.
