On the New York City Football Forum, there are a few things that have developed into constants.  Trash talking, jokes, and spread central.  The weekly release of the spreads for all the league games has been a great addition to the forum which is in its second decade of service.  The players, coaches and fans alike go to the forum for their Minor League Football news on a daily basis which for some has developed into a sort of religon.

Here is the list of games that he is covering this week.  22 games which means Retired has done his homework on 44 different teams and you would be surprised at how accurate he is.

Punishers Family Day BBQ

Punisher’s go out week in and week out and do battle on the field. Its nice every once in awhile to not be Grid Iron Warriors and be the family men we are. On Saturday, July 17th the Punishers through their family day BBQ! It was a huge success, with kids swimming in the pool, wives playing cards and players telling old Raven battle stories it was a time to remember. There was water fights, food fights and the best bbq man in the world in Coach Jerry. His secret sauce had many licking there fingers and pouring it into cups to take home. “This was the key. The key to unlocking the championship burn, this is the year I really think it is. This is a true team in every sense of the word.” added President Tyrone Beatty as his wife fed him Rice like he was three years old. Thanks to Coach Rodney and his wife Tamika for putting together a great event and we are hoping the next event is just as big and we are celebrating around a championship trophy!

Bandits Support Jamal Davis

A few weeks ago the New York Bandits were involved in a great event and most importantly for a great cause. The football game itself was secondary to anything else as the organization was able to lend their well known name and resources to helping a young man by the name of Jamal Davis.

His story has become something over time that has touched many hearts. Bandits Head Coach Billy Badson “There are moments when I remind myself that he doesn’t have the ability to play the game I love anymore and to help him deal with his life is worth 10 Championship trophies over and again for me. I would personally give back every win, every game played just to see that young man put on his shoulder pads again. So I am extremely proud of our team and their effort and donations to the event. I am proud of our guys, it easy to get caught up as we are all members of the team but its days like this when I wish I could simply say from the highest mountain top that I not only a Bleed Blue but would Bleed no other color.”

Super Matchup In The Big Game

May 16, 2010 by Gridiron Elite Staff

The scoreboard at Kings Bay Field better start stretching and getting warmed up  for the big game this weekend.  On the field is the much anticipated matchup between two of the premier signal callers in the sport.  Corey Sage aka “Mr. Tivo” who leads the Blue Devils attack and Gerald Wilson aka “G-Bloc” who is as dangerous with his feet as he is with his arm.

For every possession in this weeks championship game there will be a quarterback in the game that can score from anywhere on the field.  The Bay Knights and Blue Devils have put up over 30 points regularly throughout the tournament as two of the highest scoring offenses in the Classic.  The Bay Knights recieving corp and Blue Devil running game will be the wildcards in this one as both defenses have their hands full.  The battle of Brooklyn could feature a record amount of points in a game as these two teams have not been held for 60 minutes yet.

Sage was the spearhead of the emergence of the Blue Devils in the tournament.  Before the start of the Classic few people picked the Blue Devils to make it all the way.  However it seemed from the start that this team was looking like a title contender with their big play ability.  Sage has been able to make plays down the field so often that his threat of the deep ball has opened up the Blue Devil rushing attack.  Wilson has added to his already stellar arsenal by adding a new niche to his game in 2010.  G-Bloc has been able to give his recievers extra time in their routes by showing an uncanny ability to extend a play within the pocket with his feet.  One Gridiron Elite staff member remarked, “His improvment in his footwork is really noticeable, for a player like that to be improving is almost scary”.

Make sure you get your seat early for this one as if you come even a few minutes late you may miss a Mr. Tivo or G-Bloc highlight.

The Voice of Kings Bay – On the Mike For Championship Coverage

If you have attended a game at Kings Bay Field lately you have been treated to great entertainment both on the field and in the booth.  Earl Thomas is the voice of Kings Bay Field, with his in depth knowledge of the game and witty humor that radiates from the stadium public address system makes football in Brooklyn that much better.

His trademark announcement of the concesion stand having free condiments if you mention Earl Thomas sent you is somthing that adds to the atmosphere at the field.  As a PA announcer Earl sometimes comes out of the box and does some color commentary to the crowds amusement.  Occasionally you even see players react to to the bellowing voice that seems to descend upon them from the heavens.   It is those special moments that made him an easy choice in deciding who would do the honors of being the voice for the 3rd Gridiron Elite Classic Championship Game.

3rd Annual Spring Classic Championship

And then there were 2….

After the dust settled the 12 team field in the Spring Classic has been cut to just two teams that are already preparing for what promises to be a game to remember.

The Brooklyn Blue Devils have had a break out year, really emerging in the area as the premier team in Brooklyn with their potent offense both in the air and on the ground.  The Blue Devils went through the regular season with just one blemish on their record and put up a bunch of points on the way to the big game.

The Kings Bay Knights have mad winning into a consistant habit as in their two years of playing in the Spring Classic they have only lost 1 game.  They came into the 2010 season focused and determined to avenge their early exit from the 2009 Classic.  Their defense buckled down this weekend by shutting down a very talented Bulldawg offense.  To go along with their no huddle, scoreboard busting offense, they have all the weapons it takes to bring home the 2010 Championship.

Stay tuned this week as we give you the Gridiron Elite Super Coverage of the big game including previews, articles and video which gives you everything you need to know before heading out to the big game Saturday night in Brooklyn.

Brooklyn Stand Up

The Gridiron Elite Spring Classic has never had a team from the borough of Brooklyn in its championship game.  With the 2010 Championship Game featuring two teams from Brooklyn we take a look at the place that these teams call home.

Brooklyn is New York City’s most populous borough with 2.5 million residents,[1] and second largest in area. It is also the western most county (Borough) on Long Island.

Since 1896, Brooklyn has had the same boundaries as Kings County, which is now the most populous county in New York State and the second most densely populated county in the United States, after New York County (Manhattan).  According to the 2005-2007 American Community Survey Estimates, the borough’s population was 43.7% White (36.2% non-Hispanic White alone), 36.2% Black or African American (33.7% non-Hispanic Black or African American alone), 0.5% American Indian and Alaska Native, 9.3% Asian, 0.0% Native Hawaiian and Other Pacific Islander, 11.9% from some other race and 1.5% from two or more races. 19.6% of the total population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.

The borough has had a part in theater and film as well. Lynn Nottage’s play Crumbs from the Table of Joy is set in post-World War II Brooklyn and deals with the hopes and frustrations of an African American family recently arrived from Florida. The John Travolta movie Saturday Night Fever was set in Bay Ridge, an Italian neighborhood in southern Brooklyn. Neil Simon’s 1983 play “Brighton Beach Memoirs” is set in 1937 Brooklyn. In the late 1980s Brooklyn achieved a new cultural prominence with the films of Spike Lee, whose She’s Gotta Have It and Do The Right Thing were shot in Brooklyn neighborhoods. In 2001 and 2002, the German filmmaker Christoph Weinert shot a documentary With Allah in Brooklyn.[38] The 2005 film The Squid and the Whale, by Noah Baumbach, the son of novelist Jonathan Baumbach and Village Voice film critic Georgia Brown, examined the family life of the Park Slope intelligentsia. After Radio City Music Hall, Brooklyn Technical High School houses the second largest auditorium in New York City with seating capacity of over 3,000.

Southern Brooklyn was once the premier resort destination for New York City. Coney Island developed as a playground for the rich in the early 1900s, when wealthy New Yorkers would bet on horses at the Gravesend or Sheepshead Bay Race Track and dined at high-class restaurants and seaside hotels. No trip to Sheepshead Bay would be complete without a stop at the docks and then dinner at Lundy’s Restaurant. The introduction of the subway made Coney Island a vacation destination for the masses, and it evolved into one of America’s first amusement grounds. The Cyclone rollercoaster, built in 1927, is on the National Register of Historic Places. The 1920 Wonder Wheel and other rides are still operational at Astroland. Coney Island went into decline in the 1970s, but is undergoing a renaissance. The annual Coney Island Mermaid Parade is a hipster costume-and-float parade which honored David Byrne, pre-punk music guru, as the head merman in 1998. Coney Island also hosts the annual Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest.
